Emergency services raced to a burning vehicle in the middle of a busy motorway.

Traffic Scotland tweeted at 6.50pm that fire crews were attending a vehicle fire at Junction 6 (Old Inns Roundabout) on the M80.

One northbound lane is closed due to the incident, which is blocking traffic.

One picture shows fire engines deployed at the scene while another has queues of traffic backed up along the lane.

Drivers are urged to use caution when approaching this area.

The incident came to light around 7.10 pm.

Fire crews confirmed they were called to the area.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 6.22pm to reports of a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) rear wheel on fire.

“Operations control brought the three devices together.”

SFRS confirmed they were no longer on the scene.
