Chhattisgarh Congress chief and MLA Mohan Markham on Monday alleged misappropriation of funds for works sanctioned under the District Mineral Fund (DMF) in Kondagaon district of the state and demanded a probe.
After Markham raised the issue, Minister of State for Panchayat and Rural Development Ravindra Choubey assured that the matter would be looked into by a state-level official and action would be taken within a month.
Speaking during the Question Hour, Markham asked about the number of works sanctioned by the district building committee to the Rural Engineering Service (RSE) department in Kondagaon in the last two financial years as well as in the current fiscal till January 31.
Markham, who represents the Kondagaon assembly constituency, also asked about the funds allocated for these works.
In his reply, the minister said, no work was awarded by the district construction committee for RES in the area during the said period.
Later, Markham alleged that they misappropriated funds worth Rs 7 crore in works under DMF in Kondagaon district.
He asked whether the state government would take action against the officer concerned after the inquiry by setting up a House committee. Joining him on the issue, MPs from the opposition BJP also demanded a probe by the House panel.
Chubey said details of the problem will be gathered and the matter will be investigated by state-level officials. He also assured that the matter would be acted upon within a month.
