“The world needs clarity on how developed countries will provide $100 billion annually. I stressed the need to double adaptation assistance to $40 billion annually by 2025,” he added.
Turning to food security, Guterres said “without sufficient fertilizers, next year’s harvest may not be enough to feed the world”.
“We need international cooperation and solidarity to bring prices down, increase support to developing countries, including social protection floors, and prevent a major crisis next year,” he said.
Guterres called on international financial institutions to increase aid to developing countries.
“They need immediate debt relief,” the UN chief said.
