Former US Vice President Mike Pence has said that history will hold Donald Trump accountable for his role behind the attack on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021.

“Donald Trump was wrong, I didn’t have the authority to manipulate the election results,” he said while speaking to reporters at the annual Gradiron Dinner in Washington.

“Donald Trump’s irresponsible words put the lives of my family, myself and everyone in the building on Capitol Hill at risk that day, and I know history will hold Donald Trump accountable,” he said.

Mike Pence, Donald Trump’s vice president, added: “What happened that day was a disgrace, a mockery of our decency. I will not forget the courage of the executors.

Mike Pence was present at the time of the attack on Capitol Hill when thousands of Donald Trump supporters stormed the building to prevent Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Mike Pence was there to preside over a formal meeting to approve Electoral College votes to fulfill his constitutional role as Senate President.

During the siege on Capitol Hill, Donald Trump tweeted false claims of voter fraud from his account, urging Republican supporters to “fight back” while criticizing Mike Pence for confirming the results.
