The Jammu and Kashmir Rural Life Mission (JKRLM) is hosting the first of its kind national level SARAS Ajeevika Mela in Srinagar from March 15you 2023-25you March 2023.
The mela will provide a platform for SHGs associated with the Ministry of Rural Development’s scheme Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM). Women SHGs from various states/UTs will participate in this national level fair.
Almost representation of SHG members from 20 states/UTs is expected in SARAS Ajeevika Kashmir. The exhibition and sale will feature the best handmade products of women SHGs from Gujrat, Karnataka, Punjab, Meghalaya, Goa, Delhi, UP and others. The place will be a special attraction for art and culture lovers. Traditional recreational activities for children, folk songs and musical evenings will delight visitors. A food and snack corner will be available on the premises to bring in the tang and flavor for food lovers.
Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM) is a poverty alleviation program of the Government of India implemented in Jammu and Kashmir. Over 6 women from rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir are part of this massive community-based intervention. The objective of the Program is to make women self-reliant and help poor households break out of the shackles of poverty by enabling them to access finance and identify resources, create and expand their businesses.
JKRLM has imprinted the success stories of women SHGs, which are emerging as the most powerful external support for community development. JKRLM brings rural women together to form community institutions and hold these institutions, thereby bringing the most desired change in the socio-economic contours of the rural poor.

A relevantly similar fair was conducted in Jammu in the month of February this year, which was a very successful event. More than 300 proud women artisans from 17 states/UTs participated with their handicrafts, handloom products besides their food delicacies. Visitors enjoyed shopping the delicately crafted products of SHG members and musical evenings.
SARAS Ajeevika Kashmir 2023 is expected to remain a great attraction for the visitors. During this season, Dal Lake remains bustling with travelers stopping at every point to enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake and the magnificent mountains behind the lake. When it’s around, visitors will have the best of the place by the famous Dal Lake to come and enjoy the aroma and ambiance of the ethnicity of the Mela Road at the Boulevard.
