#Delhi: Supreme Court extends protection to Trinamool MLA Manik Bhattacharya, former president of Board of Primary Education. The CBI will not be able to take strict action like arresting Manik till next Friday and the case will be heard again on Friday

Calcutta High Court Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay directed Manik Bhattacharya to appear at the CBI office by 8 pm on Tuesday. Justice Gangopadhyay announced that the CBI can take Manik into custody and interrogate him. Manik appealed to the Supreme Court against this order and the Supreme Court clarified that the CBI cannot arrest him until this afternoon based on the application of the Trinamool MLA.

Even if Manik gets protection, the CBI can continue its investigation and the Calcutta High Court has upheld Manik Bhattacharya’s order to appear before the CBI office. Although the deadline given by the High Court expired last night, he did not go to the CBI office till afternoon, sources said, adding that Manik had sent a letter to the CBI that he was now in Delhi.

Although he was not found since yesterday, Manik was seen today at Banga Bhavan in Delhi, although he did not want to say anything in front of the media

Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay ordered the Kolkata Police to take Manik to the CBI office after an ACP-rank officer of the Kolkata Police lodged a complaint with the police after not finding Manik.
