The UP government on Monday doubled the reward for information on the five accused wanted for the murder of lawyer Umesh Pal, a witness to the 2005 killing of BSP MLA Raju Pal, and his two assailants, from Rs 2.5 lakh each to Rs 5 each. million Rs. .

Mohammad Asad, son of jailed former MP Atiq Ahmed, is among the five accused who escaped, police said. The other four have been identified as Arman, Ghulam, Gudu Muslim and Sabir.

Umesh Pal and his gunmen were killed in broad daylight in Dumanganj area of ​​Prayagraj on 24 February.

According to a note issued by the state police headquarters, the government increased the reward on the recommendation given by the state DGP.

More than a week after the murder, police announced a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh for information on the five accused. Among them, Gudu Muslim and Ghulam were named in the FIR, while the alleged role of others emerged during the investigation, police said.

According to the police, Arman has seven cases registered against him, Ghulam has eight cases, while the other accused have one case against them each. Atiq Ahmed and his younger brother Ashraf, who are also named in the FIR, are lodged in different jails. Atiq is lodged in a jail in Gujarat while Ashraf is in Bareilly jail.

On Sunday, the Prayagraj police announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for information about Atiq Ahmed’s absconding wife Shaista Parveen. Parveen is also named in Umesh Pal’s murder FIR.
