Unnao- An 11-year-old rape victim has given birth to a child in the district hospital of Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh.
The doctors said that the newborn’s health is being monitored in the hospital’s NICU.
At first, the police and CHC (Morwan) medical staff did not believe that the girl could be pregnant and thought that her belly was swollen.
District Child Protection Officer Sanjay Mishra said that the rape victim was brought to the district hospital after severe labor pain. “She had a normal delivery and the baby weighs 2.60 kg. Both mother and child are healthy,” he said.
CWC Chairperson Preeti Singh, who is in regular touch with the family, said that initially the child had difficulty breathing. “He has been shifted to the hospital’s NICU, where his condition is being closely monitored,” he said.
The victim was abducted in January when she was at a local shop to buy sugar. Three men allegedly covered her face and took her to the graveyard, where she was allegedly gang-raped. The police have arrested three accused after registering a complaint.
SP (Unav) Dinesh Tripathi said that the family had approached the police by filing a complaint against unknown persons in February. During the statement recorded before the magistrate, the girl’s father said that he would reveal the name later.
On the basis of the names mentioned by him, three persons were arrested under the sections of POCSO on the charge of rape. The police have also registered the Gangster Act against the accused.
“The family has given the names of two other persons, saying they were also involved in the crime,” he said.
“We will place these names before the court and seek permission to examine them. The case is already under hearing in the POCSO court,” the SP added.
